April 16: Design Highlights From Yesterday's Show Floor

04/16/2008

From big to small, intimate to out-there, NAB exhibitors are making some unique exhibit design choices. Here, a few of our favorites.

Autodesk. The brand went with a minimalist material choice leveraged in an innovative way, with stand architecture made almost entirely of unfinished, angled plywood paneling. Front and center, there is an exterior presentation theater with a huge projection screen, which leads to an interior space with AstroTurf-style carpeting. Four software demo stations with large screen monitors mounted above line the off-kilter walls, while private meeting rooms are spread throughout the footprint, tucked away within the structure. A sweet design detail: the exterior walls feature mounted, angled viewfinder boxes that reveal illuminated graphics created with the brand’s products when visitors peek inside. –Booth 1420

Quantel. An impressive wedge-shaped structure dominates the footprint, wrapped in white fabric, logos and projected lighting. The wedge’s flat end surface is used as a giant projection screen for a presentation theater space. Mirrored walls underneath the structure hide a storage area, and a small hospitality bar is tucked away in the back. Curved walls surround the footprint, with demo stations touting the brand’s technology on both sides. Private meeting/storage space is located behind these, and exterior panel walls wrapped in fabric feature a black/white/red color scheme with abstract line illustrations. –Booth 720

Vizrt. The brand’s long and narrow footprint boasts two white, double-deck structures with sleek curved edges. Vizrt’s signature orange is tied into the structures through layered chain link accents and lighting. With meeting space and a deck lounge up above, the floor features a blue screen interactive zone, seven four-sided computer demo stations with large screen monitors mounted above and orange highlight lighting fixtures at floor level, and a presentation theater with eight seamless monitors running a single image. –Booth 4805

Microsoft. An ultra-cool environment for the software giant is highlighted by all black architecture and an immersive blue lighting setup. A two-story, semicircular main structure features lots of frosted plexi windows, lit with blue LED fixtures. This structure wraps around a small oval stage, where a large monitor backdrop lowers from the ceiling when presentations start. Six V-shaped demo stands with illuminated blue graphic panels up top feature two computers on each side mounted on circular tables. Two more demo zones are located under the ends of the main structure, and a pathway under the center leads to a hospitality zone. –Booth 5520

Miranda Technologies. A series of white, high-gloss angled walls adorned with graphics and monitors surround a central tower topped with a white fabric circle structure that’s lit up in the brand’s signature purple (the carpet’s all purple, too). The walls are lined with computer demo stations and large screen monitors on all sides, and the back wall is covered with monitors for a multi-image technology demonstration. Creative twist: the square center tower is actually wrapped around one of the LVCC’s structural columns, and camouflages it perfectly. –Booth 6811
